Lymington win 3 at Southampton Head

Lymington took 5 crews to the Southampton Coastal Fours Head last Saturday and achieved 3 wins.  The course is 3 ¾ miles down the river Itchen, done as a time trial.

The Men’s Junior crew (Last year’s J16 Boys) won in 18:50, 7 seconds ahead of Christchurch.  Just ahead of them were the Veteran 40s, who won in 18:27.  2010 is the fourth consecutive year that Lymington have won the Veteran 40s at the Southampton Head.  The Veteran 50 crew were unable to row due to the Icelandic Volcano.  Lymington’s Men’s Senior Four were 4th place in a time of 18:03.

A further 2 Lymington crews entered the second division.  The Ladies Junior crew won in 20:50, over a minute and a half ahead of second place BTC.  The Novice Men’s crew improved by a further minute and a half over their previous time over the same course in March.

The club is pleased to have 2 new Coxswains this year, Jasmine Mullins and James Barnes, both 11.  Jasmine steered a good course with the Junior Ladies to win in her first race.  James also steered a good course and won 2 races in March.

The rowing season proper starts on Saturday 8th May with Coalporters regatta.
