Lymington Novice Ladies get first Win at Newport

Last Saturday, Lymington Rowing Club travelled to a very wet Newport, for the only strait (No buoy turns) regatta of the season.  The club would like to thank Wightlink for their help in getting their boats and rowers to the regatta.

After their second place last week at Milford, Lymington’s Novice Ladies crew went one better with their first win at Newport regatta on Saturday.  The club achieved a further 2 wins, and only missed out on the aggregate by 1 point.

The Novice Ladies crew of Daisy Bradford, Lucy Taylor, Livvi Bull, Emily Batt & Laura Viner (Coach & Cox) won their heat easily to line up in the final against Westover & Southampton.  Lymington produced a strong and tidy row to ease away from Westover and claim their first Novice win.

The Men’s Novice crew of Jonny Clarke, Liam Webb, Jeremy Baker Rhys Vaughan & Cox Alex Barnes also improved on their result at Milford, finishing 2nd.

The Junior men’s crew of Jonny Prince, Tom Fishwick, Luke Corbridge, James Phillips & Cox Joe Bull were pushed harder than they have been all season, but still beat Southampton and Christchurch by 2 lengths to claim their 5th win of the season.  There was another convincing performance from the Ladies Junior crew of Charlotte Batt, Erin Oliver, Kasia Koniec, Laura Viner and Cox Joe Bull to produce their 5th win of the season.

The Men’s Senior crew of Marc Tremain, Mike Leyland-Jones, Geoff Fryer, Pete Lock & Cox Laura Viner continued to improve, finishing a close 3rd to winners BTC and championship leaders Coalporters.

The next regatta is at Itchen Rowing Club in Southampton.
