Lymington Novice Ladies Win at Poole
Regatta Report |
Jun 21, 2010 at 11:30AM Last Saturday 19th June Lymington Rowing Club took 9 crews to Poole Park Lake for the shortest regatta of the year.
The young Ladies Novice crew of Daisy Bradford, Lucy Taylor, Livvi Bull, Emily Batt & Laura Viner (Coach & Cox) won at Newport 3 weeks ago, but needed a second win to progress to Junior Status. They won their heat to progress to the 6 boat final. After several false starts, they got away well to reach the turns first. A good turn from Laura Viner brought them up about a length up on Itchen. On the way back, they had a strong head wind to contend with, but continued to ease away from the other crews to win by a couple of lengths. Saturday 26th June they will be lining up against their Coach, Laura in Ladies Junior fours at Woolston regatta.
The Men’s Novice crew also reached the final where they finished a very close 4th. The Junior Men just lost out to Christchurch. With 5 regattas to go, Lymington have 5 wins and Christchurch has 2. James Phillips and Jonny Prince also rowed Junior Pair, where they also lost out, this time to Poole who have now claimed the Junior Pairs Championship. The Veteran 50s also finished second.
The Senior 4, affected by injury were 4th in the heat, and didn’t reach the final. Geoff Fryer also rowed his first Novice Scull race. In a field of 21 scullers spread over 4 heats, Geoff did well to reach the semi-final. Mike Leyland Jones had his first outing at Junior scull.
The action resumes at Woolston Saturday 26th June.
