Lymington Ladies win Hants & Dorset Championship

On Saturday, Lymington Junior Ladies achieved their 7th win of the season at Woolston regatta in Southampton and so claimed the Ladies Junior Fours, Hants & Dorset Championship.  The crew was slightly different from usual.  With Charlotte Batt away, Erin Oliver moved from 2 to Bow and Rose Gibson subbed in to the 2 seat.  Kas Koniec and Laura Viner were unchanged as the stroke pair.  They were coxed by James Barnes.

All the changes didn’t slow them down as they won by a convincing 8 lengths over Poole.  The Girls will now be looking forward to representing the Hants & Dorset at the South Coast Championships in September.

Last week’s winning Novice Ladies crew, had their first race as Juniors.  They put in a good performance at the higher status to finish third, just behind Poole.

The Men’s Junior crew was back to its usual combination, but a lack of time on the water together showed and they were disappointed with third behind Christchurch & Southampton.  The Championship is now getting more exciting with 5 wins to Lymington, 3 to Christchurch and 4 races left to go.

James Phillips and Jonny Prince once again entered the Junior pair and were first into the turns when James’ oar came out of the gate, costing them chance of victory.

Tim Bull and Alan Taylor had a disappointing row in the Senior Pair, but were pleased with 2nd in the double sculls.

Alex Barnes won his heat in Novice scull, but suffered in the rougher conditions in the final and finished 6th.  The Novice Men were 4th and the Veteran 50s were 3rd.

There is a break this weekend before Southsea Regatta on Saturday 10th July.
