There were 4 regattas in June; Itchen, BTC, Poole & Woolston. It was a very successful month for our Ladies Crews. The Ladies Junior crew won both BTC & Woolston regattas and so claimed the Hants & Dorset Championship. The crew was usually Charlotte Batt, Erin Oliver, Kas Koniec, Laura Viner and Joe Bull. However at Woolston, Charlotte was away, Erin moved to Bow, Rose Gibson sat in at 2 and James Barnes coxed.
The Ladies Novice crew of Daisy Bradford, Lucy Taylor, Livvi Bull, Emily Batt & Laura Viner had their second win at Poole. Moving up to Junior they lost Laura as their Cox as they are now racing her. The girls were 3rd in their first Junior race.
The Veteran 50s won at BTC as did the J16 boys.
New Kit
We now have 4 shiny new Concept 2 blades, taking us up to 4 sets of adjustable length carbon kleavers. With the South Coast being in River boats this year, the club has bought a wooden river four for. We are also looking to borrow / hire another one or even 2 river fours.
JOGLE
John O'Groats to Lands End bike ride will start on Sunday 11 July, expecting to finish on Thursday 22. There are 8 people cycling and hoping to raise £4,000 for the building fund. Part of the fundraising is the JOGLE Ergo challenge on Saturday 17 July. 24 people are needed to row 20 minutes each on the Quay. The idea is to try to row the 75 miles quicker than the cyclists in a Top Gear style race. We also need people to help set up and run the event. See our website http://www.lymingtonrowingclub.co.uk/index.html to follow the progress of the Cyclists.
Swanage
We will be taking the Club RIB to Swanage on Saturday 31st July to help provide safety cover for the regatta. Please let me know if you have an RYA level 2 certificate, and will be going to Swanage. Someone is also needed to tow the boat to and from Swanage, please let me know.
Safety
Coxwains and steersmen are reminded to be familiar with the Collision Regulations, or more formally International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. The river is very busy and potentially dangerous at this time of year.
Coxwains are also reminded of the need to go against the tide when entering the Solent, they should also keep reasonably close to shore.
All crews need to check heel restraints every outing, and fix them if faulty.
