Regatta Report |
Aug 17, 2010 at 8:25AM Lymington ended the Hants & Dorset season with 2 wins at Bournemouth regatta.
Last Saturday (14th Aug) was the 13th and final regatta of the Hants & Dorset Season at Bournemouth. The regatta is usually one of the roughest of the year, but the 2010 regatta was very flat.
Laura Viner & Erin Oliver weren’t rowing their usual 4, but teamed up in Ladies Junior Pair which they won over Shanklin. The Veteran 50 final was very close between the 2 Lymington crews. After 2000m the crews were still neck and neck. Eventually the crew of Andy Tobin, Brian Oliver, Simon Wright, Dave Wyatt & Cox Joe Bull were victorious.
After Christchurch regatta the Men’s Junior Championship was tied at 5 wins to Lymington and 5 to Christchurch. The Championship all rested on Bournemouth regatta. Both crews got away well and reached the turns together. As Lymington were exiting their turn, they were impeded by Southampton. This resulted in a re-row with Southampton disqualified. In the re-row Lymington once again had a fast start in lane 8, reaching the turns level with Christchurch in lane 1. On the return leg, the slightly bigger Christchurch crew were able to pull out a lead, winning both the regatta and the Hants & Dorset Championship. The Lymington crew had given everything, but were beaten by a faster crew on the day. Both Lymington and Christchurch will represent the Hants & Dorset at the South Coast Championships on 11 September.
Lymington had 2 senior scullers Tim Bull & Pete Lock. Pete made the final where he finished 3rd. They also had 3 Novice scullers. Alex Barnes made the final, Dave Mans and Geoff Fryer just missed out. The club was also well represented in Senior pairs, finishing 2nd, 4th & 8th.
In Senior fours Lymington finished 4th, and in double sculls they were 3rd and 9th.
On Sunday 15th Aug, Lymington Rowing club had 3 entries in the highly prestigious Lymington Bath Race. Alastair Keir & Pete Lock were 2nd overall, while Laura Viner Viner & Emma Prangle were the first ladies Bath. Ken & Ryan Chalk were the fastest bath looking like a crocodile.
