Lymington Ladies win the South Coast Championship

Saturday 11th September was the season ending South Coast Rowing Championships at Wimbleball lake in Somerset. Lymington had 2 crews in Championship events, with a further 8 crews in the Open events. The Ladies Junior crew of Charlotte Batt, Erin Oliver, Kasia Koniec, Laura Viner & Joe Bull were undefeated on the Hants & Dorset in 2010, but the crews from the otherSouth Coast counties were unknown quantities.

The girls didn’t have their best start and were in the unusual position of not being ahead off the start. At the halfway point, Lymington did a big push to try and pull ahead. Joe held off some aggressive steering from Bexhill to pull clear. Lymington finished 2 lengths ahead of Bexhill, with Exeter in 3rd. This was the first South Championship win for a Lymington Ladies crew.

The Veteran 50s crew were reigning champions after winning at Folkestone in 2009. Lymington had 2 Veteran 50 crews in 2010, this was a combination with Terry Woolford & Brian Goodall from the B crew with Brian Oliver & Simon Wright from the A crew and James Barnes coxing. The crews were recalled after a false start by Shoreham. It was a close race, but Lymington just lead all the way, and finished 2 lengths ahead of Coalporters.

Alex Barnes raced both J18 scull and Novice scull. He was 3rd in J18, but won a very close Novice race to win by a foot over Falmouth to claim his first Novice scull win.

The Men’s Junior crew were 4th in the Championship event. In the open, both the Senior Men and the Junior Ladies B were 4th. Tim Bull was 3rd in Veteran sculls. Lymington had two J16 coxed quad sculls. The A crew were leading their heat when equipment failure let them down. The B crew made the final.
