June Update
monthly updates |
Jul 11, 2011 at 2:20PM Congratulations to Pete & Laura who are getting married on Saturday 16th July, and to Brian & Pauline on 23rd July.
We have now had 6 regattas, with Milford cancelled, Southsea is taking place as I type. The club has had plenty of wins, and is in contention in 3 championships.
The Junior-Seniors won at Ryde, Shanklin & Itchen 3:1 up in the Championship
Vet 40 won at Ryde, Woolston & Itchen 1:1:1 in the Championship
Pete & Rob won Senior Pair at Shanklin & Woolston 3:3 in the Championship
Vet 50 Won Itchen & Swanage
Geoff Won Nov Scull at Ryde
Livvi & Lucy won Ladies Junior Pair at Woolston
James & Tim won Double Scull at Ryde
The standard of Novice rowing this year is very high, with many novice crews being good enough to have won Junior in previous years. With a bit of consistancy, hopefully our 2 Novice Men's crew can get wins before the end of the season.
Milford Regatta is to be held on Sunday 21 August (The day after Christchurch). Hopefully the weather will be better this time. Although the regatta will start at 10:30, help will be needed loading up on Friday & Saturday evenings, and on the Sunday morning from 7am. Unfortunately the Sailing Club RIB will not be available, so I am looking for another RIB to be used as a safety boat on the day. If you know of one, please let me know.
As the club is a bit of a mess at the moment, we have decided to re-start the cleaning rota. Each crew is asked to clean every 9 weeks. This should only take around 30 minutes before or after an outing. There will be a list up at the club, but we are starting with Men's Nov A. (Joe, Jeremy, Zac & Jonny).
Boat loading has continued to be very poorly attended this year. Boats don't arrive at the regatta by magic! Please ensure that at least half the crew is at boat loading (6pm Friday). Crews should also be available for loading and unloading both at the regatta, and on return to the club.
We would like to have an end of season party on Saturday 17th September (1 week after the SCC). I am looking for someone to organise this; Posters, fancy dress, music, food?
Remember that regatta entries have to go in 2 -3 weeks before each regatta. If you want an entry, put your name on the entry form. If you enter and don't row, there is still £4 per person to be paid, this is because the club pays the entries in advance. Late entries (On the day) are usually possible, but cost an extra £3 per person.
