    Mid-Season Report

As the Hants and Dorset 2011 Rowing Season moves into its second half, Lymington begins to prepare for the finale to some key championship battles.

The Mens Junior Senior Squad consisting of Jonathon Prince, Liam Oliver, Geoffrey Fryer, Luke Corbridge, James Phillips and Cox Joe Bull currently have a 4-1 lead in the championship over rivals, Christchurch. Despite taking the first point of the season at Poole regatta, Christchurch (the Junior level champions) have struggled to match the Lymington crew.  The Lymington crew has taken wins at Ryde, Shanklin, Swanage and Southsea, giving them a strong chance of winning the championship.  Lymington only need two more victories to secure the championship and are working hard to give themselves every possible chance.  It is still unknown as to which crew will be faster on flat water but Lymington will be confident to take victories in the rough regattas like Bournemouth and the home regatta, Milford (Sunday 21st August).

The Mens Senior Pair team of Rob Maltby and Peter Lock also have a lead in their championship.  They have a 4-3 lead over Poole after taking the point at Southsea last weekend.  The duo won the first regatta of the season before wins at Shanklin and Woolston improved their lead to 3-1.  Poole fought back however, with wins at Itchen and Swanage, but were no match for Lymington at Southsea.  This championship is going to be a hard fought battle between the two crews but the Lymington crew hold the advantage in the championship and have proved themselves to be consistently faster in the rough.

The Lymington Veteran Over 40 crew of Mark Tremain, Kenny Chalk, Alan Taylor, Tim Bull and Cox Joe Bull have also taken two wins this season at Ryde and Itchen.  The crew raced as a composite at Itchen, however, so did not take the point for the championship.  The current champions BTC lead the championship with two points.  Lymington are level at one point a piece with Southampton.  The championship is defiantly still available for the Lymington crew to take.

Lymington has also taken three wins in the Veteran Over 50 category but there is no championship up for grabs.  The Ladies Junior Pair team of Livvi Bull and Lucy Taylor picked up a win at Woolston regatta and were very close at Southsea.  James Phillips and Tim Bull teamed up successfully to win the Double Scull at Ryde.  Geoffrey Fryer has also picked up one win in the Mens Novice Scull and is looking for his second before the season ends.
