U18 Membership Form.doc
(60K)
Membership Period
Membership covers all rowing in Lymington and is due on 1st January each year, no matter when you joined. Anyone who has not paid by 31st January is no longer entitled to use club equipment.
Regattas
Regattas take place mainly in Hampshire, Dorset & the Isle of Wight from May to September (usually on Saturdays) but we do go to some events further afield, and outside this main season. Regattas must usually be entered at least 2 weeks in advance. Entries on the day are possible, but cost more and there may not be space for your crew. Discuss entering regattas with your coach.
Boats
Boats must be loaded onto the trailer before the regatta (Usually Friday 6pm) and unloaded afterwards. At least half of each crew are expected to attend boat loading and unloading. There is limited space on the club mini-bus.
Regatta Fees
Regatta Fees must be paid for racing. These vary, depending on the event and distance from Lymington, but are typically £6 per seat for over 18s and £5 for under 18s. Additional entries and late entries incur further fees. We may race outside the Hants & Dorset which requires ARA membership, £44 for adults & £27 for students and £20 for under 18s.
Training
Training takes place all year. In the winter we run on Monday nights, leaving the club at 6:30pm, there is a 2 mile and a 4 mile run. We have 4 Ergos available to all full rowing members which can be booked in advance. Club members can get reduced rates at New Forest Recreation Centres, ask Alastair Keir (Club Secretary) for a letter.
Clothing
Clothing is very important especially in winter. For safety reasons, shoes must be worn around the quay, and these will have to go in the water. Bear in mind that you will usually have to go into the water to about knee depth, and baggy clothing can get caught in the sliding seats. In winter it is very important to dress to the conditions, including a hat and light waterproof top when necessary.
Remember that you could get very wet at any time of year, so you may want to bring a towel and a change of clothes.
Racing Clothing
Racing Clothing To race for Lymington, you must wear a Lymington Singlet, or All-in-one. The club does not stock these, but they can usually be borrowed to start with, or bought from Godfrey, see below. Only a white T-shirt may be worn underneath.
Helping Out
Helping out is not compulsory, but it is much appreciated. Events such as our own regatta, club clean up days, fund raising events all require a lot of work to make them happen. We have a cleaning rota and ask most crews to clean once every 9 weeks.
Club Structure
The club is run by a Captain (Pete Lock), Vice Captain (Kasia Koniec) and committee. Pictures of these people are on a notice board. Lisa Hurdidge is the Club Welfare Officer and water Safety Advisor. If you have any concerns please feel free to speak to Lisa or any other senior members. The committee usually meets on the first Thursday of each month; any member may speak at a meeting, please contact the Secretary first. Junior members may prefer to speak to our Junior Representative (James Philips).
